Background

Belly Dance Fusion is a fusion of movement principles and elements from different styles, mainly Raques Sharki or Belly Dance mixed with other Urban and Folkloric styles.

Everything I do within this dance form comes from my own experience and practice. My style might differ from other dancers’ of this style and to me that is the beauty of it. Belly Dance Fusion is unique to each and every dancer.

A passion and a journey

I learned belly dance when I was a teenager but the male gaze element of it and the music didn’t allow me to enjoy it fully. However, dancing Belly Dance Fusion allowed me to experience empowerment and send my gaze internally. I fell in love with its muscular articulations that took years to master, the freedom of expression and the family feeling it creates within the community.

I started taking Belly Dance Fusion classes like a lot of others when I saw Rachel Brice performance videos on Youtube. The style flourished with the beginning of Youtube and it helped it to spread world wide. I saw women and men on stage heavily tattooed, with Gothic costumes dancing to music I liked.

My Belly Dance Fusion journey is a self discovery, a search for identity and a bridge to connect the different cultures and races in me. Belly Dance Fusion taught me feminism, history, sensuality and how to take up space in places where people like me shouldn’t exist.
